PROSPECTS OF PILGRIMAGE TOURISM IN UZBEKISTAN INSPIRE MALAYSIANS

Uzbekistan is a unique country on whose territory the most ancient civilizations and cultures born and developed, magnificent monuments of history and majestic examples of unique architecture were preserved. Among them are holy places that attract pilgrims from all over the world, including from Malaysia.

The article of the chairman of the Friendship Society "Malaysia-Uzbekistan", a member of the Malaysian National Council for Tourism Abdul Halim Ahmad, published on the website of the journal OIC Today, is devoted to this theme. As the author notes, visiting Islamic shrines located on the territory of Uzbekistan is equated with "small hajj". The mausoleum of the outstanding muhaddis (collector of hadiths) Imam Bukhari is given as an example which according to the expert, is one of the most significant places for visiting every Muslim.

In this context, the author tells about the steps being taken to develop cooperation in pilgrimage tourism between Uzbekistan and Malaysia. Thus, there was reported on the visit of the Uzbek delegation to Kuala Lumpur in April-May, during which important documents were signed, involving joint work in this direction, an increase in the tourism exchange, promotion of the tourist potential of Uzbekistan in the market of Malaysia and other countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Abdul Halim Ahmad also informs that these days there is another visit of the representatives of the State Committee for Tourism Development and more than 10 tourism companies of Uzbekistan to Kuala Lumpur which is a logical continuation of the cooperation between the two countries. It is noted that the delegation is conducting an official presentation of pilgrim tours for Malaysian citizens, a press conference and a number of B2B meetings. It is expected that Uzbek and Malaysian tour operators will sign mutually beneficial protocols to promote cooperation in this area.

Recall that the OIC Today magazine, founded in 2003, is distributed to the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as in Great Britain, Myanmar, the Republic of Korea and Japan. The edition is issued monthly with a circulation of 30 thousand copies.
