May 29 is exactly one quarter of a century since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kingdom of Bahrain. On this day in 1992, the parties signed the Joint Communiqué in Tashkent which became the basic document for the establishment and strengthening of bilateral ties.

Note that Uzbekistan and Bahrain have similar and close views on the issues of global disarmament, ensuring international security, fighting against transnational terrorism, reforming the UN structures.

These positions were confirmed during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad Al Khalifa to Uzbekistan on June 5-7, 2007. In Tashkent, a high-ranking guest met the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and conducted talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our republic.

On 3-7 June 2009, the Minister of Finance of Bahrain Sheikh Ahmad bin Muhammad Al Khalifa paid an official visit to Uzbekistan. As a result of the meetings and negotiations, the agreements were signed between the governments of the two countries on avoiding the double taxation and preventing evasion from paying taxes on income and property, as well as cooperation between the chambers of commerce and industry.

In November of the same year, the delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade E.Ganiyev was in Manama. During the visit, the negotiations were conducted in a number of ministries and departments, companies and banks of the Kingdom, and a presentation of the economic and investment potential of Uzbekistan was carried out.

Uzbekistan and Bahrain support each other in the international arena and cooperate within the framework of international organizations such as the UN, OIC, as well as the UN specialized committees in Geneva.

The two countries have great opportunities for developing the cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. Working relations between the universities, scientists, cultural and art figures, as well as athletes contribute to the rapprochement of our peoples.

So, in May 1992, a delegation consisting of the representatives of the Women's Committee of Uzbekistan and the Association of Women Entrepreneurs took part in the international fair in Manama, during which the works of folk-applied art of our country were presented. As a part of the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Committee of Women of Uzbekistan and the Society for the Protection of Mother and Child of Bahrain.

In February 1993, during the visit to Manama, the delegation of our country led by the rector of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies was received by the then emir of Bahrain Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

In a word, over the past 25 years of relations, Uzbekistan and Bahrain have achieved certain successes in various areas of the cooperation. At the same time, it is obvious that the parties have yet to realize a huge untapped potential for interaction. Nevertheless, today it can be confidently asserted that the basis of fruitful connections laid for this time will serve as a reliable foundation for their bringing to a qualitatively new level.
