FRIENDSHIP OF PEOPLES

The Days of Uzbek Culture in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, last week ended with a grand concert hosted by the Sadriddin Ayni Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

Uzbekistan artists were welcomed very warmly, many spectators even danced when Uzbek songs performed. The audience was especially pleased with the songs of People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Gulomjon Yakubov and well-known singer Sevinch Muminova.

The triumphant conclusion of the concert was a song about the friendship of peoples, which was performed by Uzbek artists all together, which caused a storm of applause from the audience.

The Days of Uzbek Culture in Tajikistan opens the way for further close cooperation between the cultural communities of the two countries, exchange of experience in the field of theatrical art, circus, cinema and museums.

The group of Uzbek officials that arrived in Dushanbe on May 9 included the First Deputy Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan, Minhojiddin Khojimatov, representatives of the State Philharmonic and Uzbekkino Agency. People’s artists of Uzbekistan, laureates of the Nihol Prize, winners of international competitions, and Uzbekistan song and dance ensemble took part in the cultural event.

Opening the event, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Tajikistan Shoqosim Shoislamov called this event a new stage of Tajik-Uzbek relations: “For the first time we arrived in Tajikistan in such a large group - more than 400 people, who come here to demonstrate what we managed to create during the years of Independence.”

The Days of Uzbek Culture aroused great interest among the Tajik public, as such events had not been held here for many years. In this regard, the Minister of Culture of Tajikistan Shamsiddin Orumbekzoda expressed regret that the tradition of holding mutual days of culture had been interrupted in the past. But now it is reborn, and in the future Tajik artists will come to Uzbekistan on a return visit. “Cultural relations between the two brotherly peoples have always existed. In this regard, our border regions have always cooperated, famous Uzbek artists came to our capital,” the head of the Tajik Minister of Culture said.

For several days, Uzbek artists performed with concerts in several cities, including Dushanbe, Kurgan-Tube and Tursunzade. At the same time the House of Cinema of the Union of Cinematographers of Tajikistan screened feature films of Uzbek cinematographers: ‘Father’ and ‘The Tale of the Moon Faced Young Lady’, as well as a photo exhibition ‘Modern Uzbekistan’ organized.
